Dana Kavander has been the Director of Finance and Tax Administrator for the City of Berea, Ohio since 1993. Before becoming the Director, Dana was the City’s Internal Auditor for three years and the City’s outside auditor for three years. Prior to working for the City of Berea, Dana worked for public accounting firms in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Cleveland, Ohio with a focus on non-profit and governmental organizations. 

Dana received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dana is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Public Finance Administrator (CPFA), Certified Public Funds Investment Manager (CPFIM), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

Dana remains active in the Ohio Association of Public Treasurers (OAPT) and was President in 2007. Dana was elected in 2004 to the Board of Directors of the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APT US&C) and became President in 2010. In 2009, Dana received the Dr. Jackson R.E. Phillips Award; APT US&C’s prestigious award for outstanding leadership in and contributions to the management of public funds. 

Dana has been a speaker for APT US&C and OAPT since 2003, speaking on budgeting, fraud and internal controls. Dana co-authored the APT US&C publication, Guide to Internal Controls. 

Dana lives in Berea, Ohio with her husband, son and daughter.
