Margaret Birch has been Treasurer of Waterford Township since 2006, which is a township of approximately 71,000 residents. Margaret has been a member of APT US&C since that time. Margaret wrote the Township’s investment policy in 2007 and had it nationally certified by the APT US&C. Margaret attained the Certified Public Funds Investment Manager (CPFIM) Accreditation in 2010, a nationally recognized accreditation program. Birch stated, “In today’s challenging financial times, there has never been a greater need for education in managing taxpayer money.”
Margaret also has earned the professional credential of Certified Public Finance Administrator (CPFA), involving many hours of education and experience.
Margaret is also a graduate of the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Institute and is a member of the Michigan Township Association, Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association, the Government Finance Officers Association and the Michigan Government Finance Officers Association. She is currently serving as a board member for the Oakland County Treasurers Association. Margaret was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the MMTA, the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association.
Margaret is very involved in the Waterford Community. Margaret is Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, having been presented with the President’s Award, recognizing her contribution to the community. Margaret assisted with the production of a video show casing the Township, which can be viewed on the township’s Web site at www.twp.waterford.mi.us. Margaret has put on seminars for seniors and employees educating on Identity Theft. Margaret has also put on seminars for the Township employees for financial planning and estates and wills.
Margaret and her husband, Paul, have resided in Waterford for more than 30 years. They have 1 rescue dog, Tina. Margaret is an avid slalom water skier and competes on a regional and national level.
