General Information

On the banks of the Grand River, the Public Museum's Van Andel Museum Center and Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium take visitors to the stars and back into time. The Gerald R. Ford Museum, with artifacts and exhibits about the 38th President, and the Victorian Voight House as well as Frank Lloyd Wright's Meyer May House add perspective to the area's rich history. Natural wonders delight the senses at the Frederik Meijer Gardens, the largest tropical conservatory in Michigan which features the 38 foot Leonardo DiVinci horse and the Blandford Nature Center. Works of stunning beauty fill the galleries of the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Children have their own museum downtown, devoted to interactive fun. Treasury Management
This year's sessions will cover tools for collecting delinquent revenues to municipal bonds.
Learn from experts in the field of public investing, GASB, and bonds. There is a wide range of topics in this track for you to choose.

Accounting & Budgeting

These concurrent sessions cover topics from auditing, to how to prepare to get your CPFA. There is also a session covering the new auditing standards and how they affect you. This track also covers budget topics including guidance in developing budgets.

Human Resources, Retirement, Pension & Payroll

Everyone at some time deals with human resources and payroll so why not let APT US& C help provide you with the up to date information and tools on HIPPA administration and grievance procedures. This track will also cover pension systems and retirement plans.

Technology & General
The Technology track gives you the opportunity to view other government's technology solutions. You will not only discover opportunities available through technology, but will also find these tracks provide many solutions.

 

Pre Conference Seminars and Additional Training

  

International Academy

The Association of Public Treasurers will host a one day workshop for treasury officials and staff which include sessions on Budget, Fund Accounting, Investing Public Funds, and the Audit Process. If you can not attend the full conference, this full day of sessions is a great way to receive CPFA points for this workshop. The Academy is included in the cost of the registration. However, if you would like to only attend this one day workshop, we are offering a one day pass to this event and to the exhibit hall. The cost to attend only the academy is $75.


Certified Public Funds Investment Manager (CPFIM)

This certification is an intense one day course on Sunday, August 10th and the testing will follow on Monday afternoon. This is the first level of a certified multi-level comprehensive public fund investing program.  The goal of the first level of the CPFIM certification program is to provide entry education for the passive investor of public funds.  State and local government treasurers, business managers, investment officers, cash managers, and other finance officers and their staff who are new to governmental finance, recently appointed or elected, or looking to expand their knowledge base on the fundamentals of investing public funds should attend.  A Certification will be issued when the test is passed. This seminar requires an additional registration fee. It is NOT included as part of your conference registration. You can attend this seminar and not the conference.  FEE: $125

Cash Handling Seminar                                                                                                              

This is a four-hour program offering treasury and finance professionals, government clerks and cash handlers the most current techniques used to strengthen governments cash handling procedures and increase handler's knowledge and skill. The Cash Handling Training Manual, required text for the seminar, is internationally recognized in the public sector market as the most practical, comprehensive guide for training proper cash handing procedures. Training modules, glossary of terms and sample cash handling legislation is included in the Manual.  This seminar requires an additional registration fee. It is NOT included as part of your conference registration. You can attend this seminar and not the conference.   FEE:  $65

Debt Policy Seminar

This is a two-hour program offering treasury and finance professionals the most current techniques used to strengthen governments debt policy procedures and increase practitioner's knowledge and skill. The Debt Policy Training Manual, required text for the seminar, provides provides practitioners with the information necessary for preparing a comprehensive capital financing policy. Training modules, glossary of terms and sample debt policy legislation is included in the Manual.  This seminar requires an additional registration fee. It is NOT included as part of your conference registration. You can attend this seminar and not the conference.   FEE:  $55*

Disaster Preparedness Seminar

This is a two-hour program offering treasury and financial officials, the "must have" guide to minimizing the impact of a potential disaster.  The Disaster Preparedness Manual, required text for the seminar, is an easy-to-follow guide towards the correct procedures in response to a disaster. Training modules and glossary of terms is included in the Manual.  This seminar requires an additional registration fee. It is NOT included as part of your conference registration. You can attend this seminar and not the conference.   FEE:  $65*

REFUND POLICY: All cancellations must be in writing and postmarked prior to June 15, 2008. These are subject to a $100.00 service charge. Refunds will not be issued on cancellations postmarked after June 15, 2008.  To accommodate our delegates, substitutions will be accepted from the same city/firm up to June 15, 2008.  After this time a charge of $20 will be applied for any substitution. A $20 cancellation fee will be applied to guest cancellations postmarked on or before June 15, 2008. No refunds will be issued for guests on cancellations postmarked after June 16, 2008.

Note: Each Public or private representative must register as a conference participant and may NOT attend as a guest. All other individuals must register if they wish to attend conference meals, sessions, and social events.
