The Association of Public Treasurers
(APT US & C)
Privacy Policy
The Association of Public Treasurers (APT US & C)
has created this statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment
to privacy. The following discloses our information gathering and
dissemination practices.
Use of the Information this Site Gathers and Tracks
The Association of Public Treasurers (APT US & C) has created
this Privacy Policy statement as part of our commitment to maintaining
the privacy of our web users. The statement has two purposes:
- To educate users about privacy issues
- To inform users about specific privacy policies and guidelines
employed at
APT US & C.
The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination
practices. APT US & C is committed to ensuring the privacy
and accuracy of your confidential information. We do not actively
share personal information gathered from our Web servers. This
means that while we do not actively share information, however,
in some cases we may be compelled by law to release information
gathered from our Web server.
We use the Internet Protocol (IP) to help diagnose problems with
our server and to administer our Web site. IP addresses are used,
for example, to gather broad demographic information, but we do
not link them to anything that is personally identifiable.
Cookies
We also use session cookies - small pieces of
information sent from our site to your browser - to remember you
when you were logged into our information system. Session cookies
are temporary and only last for up to two hours without any activity
on our site. We also use session cookies in our forms to remember
what forms you have filled out to track your preferences from one
page to another.
Cookies are small pieces of data stored by the
Web browser. Cookies are often used to remember information about
preferences and pages you have visited. For example, when you visit
some sites on the Web you might see a "Welcome Back" message.
The first time you visited the site a cookie was probably set on
your computer; when you return, the cookie is read again. You can
refuse to accept cookies, can disable cookies, and remove cookies
from your hard drive. These cookies are used so you will not have
to repeatedly enter user names and passwords when you go to different
parts of the Web site. You are normally required to enter an ID
number when you request data about yourself or to ensure that you
are a member of APT US & C community. For example, members
who want to check their membership status must enter their membership
ID so the system knows who is requesting the data. This login process
uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) so the user name and password are
encrypted between the Web browser and our Web server.
The APT US & C Web server may also use cookies
to retain user preference information. It is against APT US & C
policy to share this information with external third parties.
Several areas of APT US & C Online (such
as membership forms, meeting forms, and member only pages) require
users to provide various types of contact information: (like names,
phone numbers and e-mail addresses), unique identifiers (like their
passwords), financial information (like their account or credit
card numbers), and demographic information (like their address
and zip code). Each type of information serves a different purpose,
depending on where it is requested. However, all of this information
will be maintained using the highest form of information security
available to APT US & C.
As a member of APT US & C, we use member
contact information from the application form to send the user
information about membership information. Membership contact information
is also used to get in touch with the member when necessary for
administrative purposes. The online Membership Directory is provided
for informational purposes and members may opt out of being listed
in the online directory at the time of application or contact APT
US & C to be removed. On occasion, APT US & C may rent
their membership list to other organizations. Members have the
option to opt out of receiving communications from others when
joining or renewing membership.
Unique identifiers (such as passwords) are collected
to verify the user's identity. Contact information obtained from
order forms will only be used to send you the product that you
purchased. Financial information that is collected is used to bill
the user for products and services ordered. Financial information
and all passwords will in no way be used for marketing purposes,
nor will it be shared with any third parties unless the third party
is doing the billing for APT US & C.
APT US & C is equally committed to protecting
the privacy of all visitors to our Web site. Information we gather.
The APT US & C Web server will generate temporary logs that
contain the following information:
- Internet address of computer being used.
- Web pages requested.
- Referring web page.
- Browser used.
- Date and time.
The data may be used in aggregate by system
administrators and Web content managers to tune the Web site for
its efficiency and is not ordinarily associated with specific individuals.
Raw data from the Web server logs is not shared with any other
content manager. Summary reports produced from the logs help APT
US & C to determine what Web browsers and pages are most popular.
For example, if the aggregate reports show a particular Web page
is very popular or used more by more APT US & C members we
will use this information to customize the content of a particular
web page and make it easier to find.
Security and Accuracy of Confidential
Information
APT US & C will do its best to ensure that
the personal information we have about you is accurate. Although
no computer system is 100% secure, APT US & C has deployed
extensive security measures to protect against the loss, misuse,
or alteration of the information under our control. Certified independent
security specialists audit these security measures and our systems.
